CSC calls for the protection and empowerment of children human rights defenders

Published 03/04/2019 By CSC Info

In September 2018, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child dedicated its Day of General Discussion to the topic of protecting and empowering children as human rights defenders. The aim of this day-long conference was to empower children all over the world to defend human rights on local, national and international platforms. CSC worked with our members Street Child United and Casa Alianza, as well as the Fairplay for All Foundation, to ensure street-connected children had their voices heard on the day. You can read our summary of the event here.

Building on the momentum of this hugely successful occasion, CSC has co-sponsored a statement urging the UN and Member States all over the world to listen to and engage with children human rights defenders. The statement, authored by Child Rights Connect, was submitted for presentation at the 40th session of the Human Rights Council during the Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders. Click below to read the statement.
