Retrak Research Report: De-institutionalization of Street Children in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Summary

Retrak’s work in reintegrating street children in Ethiopia and has led to an interest in supporting the reintegration of former street children currently residing in government childcare institutions. Retrak is aware that this is a specific group of children with particular needs and therefore undertook research on how to apply its procedures when working with these children.

This research paper utilises information collated from literature review as well as informant interviews and focus group discussions to identify good practices in de-institutionalisation and provide recommendations for how Retrak might need to adapt their existing Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs) for reintegration of street children to best meet the needs of street children living in institutional care.
