This publication aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the causes and consequences of street children’s involvement in criminal justice systems in a wide range of countries. It builds on the experiences of a wide range of individuals and organisations internationally, drawing together both theory and practice into an innovative framework for overall reform.  It includes (i) Descriptions – in the children’s own words – of the treatment they receive at different stages of the criminal justice system; (ii)  A framework of overarching concepts and recommended approaches to reform;(iii) An introduction to international human rights standards and guidelines on how to use them; (iv) Practical examples of projects and approaches from around the world; (v) Specific recommendations for improvement, including recommendations from children themselves, targeted at different actors in the system.
