Summary

Still Running is the most extensive piece of research ever carried out in the UK on young people under 18 who run away or are forced to leave home. It is the first report that gives an overall picture of the scale and extent of the issue. The research has been commissioned by three charities: The Children’s Society in England and Wales, the Aberlour Child Care Trust in Scotland and the EXTERN Organisation in Northern Ireland. An estimated 100,000 children run away or are forced to leave home every year to escape their problems. The main reasons children gave for running away include violence, abuse, family instability, family conflict, neglect, rejection and drug problems.
