Summary

Children in the third world who remain in poverty have been a major concern of current
society. Guatemala is a developing nation where many children suffer in poor economic
conditions. Approximately 51 percent of people under the age of 30 are living in poverty. Many of them are living on the streets, working as prostitutes, being exploited as child laborers, getting involved in gang activities, or suffering from parental abuse. In order to better the children in the poverty, 140 states, including Guatemala, have ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
