Summary

The workshop drew attention to the many links that exist between the issues of migration and health though there has been a paucity of research on these areas. The DRC’s work in the area is concerned with the effects of migration on health outcomes for poor people, particularly children, and is an important dimension to evaluate the costs and benefits of migration. A broad outline of the aims of the workshop which were, firstly, to reflect on the concepts and related categories used in migration and health research, and secondly, to consider the methodological issues arising from cross disciplinary research in this field. It was hoped that there would be opportunities to learn from other participants and that this workshop would provide a forum where people working in cross disciplinary areas on migration and health would share their ideas and experiences.
